Types of Projects on Veeto
There are two ways to engage as an advocate on Veeto: giving public comment at committee hearings and meeting directly with legislators and thier staff.
Speaking at Committee Hearings
Committee hearings are formal public meetings where legislators discuss and vote on bills.
What to Expect
When you speak at a committee hearing:
- You'll have about 30 seconds to deliver your message
- You'll state your name, affiliation, and position on the bill
- Your testimony becomes part of the official legislative record
- To go along with your with public comment, you can submit a written position letter prior to the hearing which may appear in the committee's analysis
Verification
All committee hearings are recorded and published on the California Senate or Assembly website. Your funds will be released after the recorded livestream becomes available and once we've confirmed your attendance and that your testimony matches what you committed to say.
For detailed information about speaking at committee hearings, see our Committee Hearings guide.
Meeting with Legislators
Legislative meetings are one-on-one conversations with legislators or their staff.
This type of campaign typically involves additional preparation and research:
- Beyond clearly defining your position on the bill, you'll need to develop a targeted strategy tailored to the specific legislator or staff member you're meeting with.
- You'll also need to carefully consider who you choose to meet with – for example, strategically approaching legislators you expect may oppose your position.
What to Expect
During a legislative meeting:
- Meetings typically last around 15 minutes
- You'll have time to explain your position in detail
- You can engage in back-and-forth dialogue
- You can build lasting relationships with legislative offices
Verification
After your meeting, you'll send a follow-up email to the legislator or staff member you met with. This email should summarize what was discussed and thank them for their time. Your funds will be released once they reply to acknowledge the meeting occurred.
